I’m pretty good with a bo-Staph…

So. ….That open mat I was talking about last time….After being away for over 2 months, and only getting on the mat for maybe 10 minutes…Well….I’ve got MRSA. 🙂

It’s my own fault.  They clean the mats religiously there, atleast the instructors do, I don’t know how well the guys that open it up for open mat clean it, but I can say with absolute certainty that it is mostly my fault, because I did not shower afterwards.

Now before you say, “OH gross, You didn’t shower?” Well no…I ALWAYS shower after I train, but I didn’t even train…I never even broke a sweat…I just laid on the mats and did some shrimps, square drills, and stretches…really relaxed, and sat around on the mats just talking.  Then I went home and didn’t even think to shower, as I had showered right before I went….And damn do I regret it… Sunday morning I noticed a nice pimple-bump on my love handle area…and by monday it was inflamed and red and horrible. I went to the doc and they drained it (gross and really painful), and gave me some Clindamycin to hopefully kill it off.

Not much of a blog. But I just wanted to point out that I have the worst luck ever.

Knucklechuck Skills

Posted in Uncategorized on February 23, 2009 by jiujitsulife

I know the title is nonsense, but it cracks me up.  Last night my girlfriend was trying to tell me about a martial arts weapon called knucklechucks.  I must have laughed for 5 minutes straight.

Anyway, It appears I have already fallen behind on my goal.  A few blogs ago I had stated that I would start back at jiu jitsu the following week….well, that didn’t quite happen.  I have went to class and watched a few times since, actually, I watched 3 times last week and went to an open mat on Friday.  No one was really there for the open mat though, since their was a big tournament the following day, everyone was home resting.

I played around a little, solo drills and a little stretching, but nothing really productive, and I felt a little weirdness in my knee while demonstrating a counter I had come up with to the underpass, but what can I do? I can’t stay out forever…so next week it is.

The real reason  I haven’t already since healing is because I am behind on dues… 2 months worth.  It is not something I am really proud to say, but also there isn’t much I could do about being broke..bills are suffocating sometimes.  Either way, I’ll get my tax return this week. Square up my debt, and I will be back on the mat.  It’s not like  my instructor won’t allow me to come, actually it is quite the opposite, but I would not feel right training without paying.  I’ll shutup now as it really is a rather boring topic, but I’ll leave this post with a small video I’ve made to highlight one of my instructor’s Mixed Martial Arts matches. Later!

Protection

Things are finally coming together. My knee is starting to feel good, and I recieved my shiny new mouthguard.  I can’t wait to get on the mats to see how it feels.  I got it from Gladiator for around $60 bucks and I have never felt a mouthguard so snug and compact.  Doesn’t feel bulky at all but appears to more than adequately protect my teefs.  Anyway, picture below and enough about that.

Tonight was the amateur “cagefighting” show in downtown Houston.  Our gym had two guys competing,  Nick Felder and Greg Bellomy.  Both guys came home with the win and I couldn’t be more proud of the work these guys are doing.  I am honored to say that I am part of Gracie Barra here in Houston.

Anyway…it should only be a few more days before I am back on the mat sweating and breathing heavy after only a few drills. Should be great!
